One such Indian chess prodigy who has been able to demonstrate his chess-playing prowess and obtain a respectable rating on the world chess scoreboard is Dommaraju Gukesh, popularly known as Gukesh D. 

 

GM D Gukesh began learning chess at the age of 7 with beginner's lessons.  D Gukesh, who was born on May 29, 2006, was a natural chess player who started out at a very young age. His father is an EMT surgeon and his mother is a microbiologist. He was able to take home the Asian School Chess Championship at just 9 years old. 

 

He won the World Youth Chess Championships in 2018 at the age of 12, which boosted his reputation in the chess community. He was being acknowledged and getting all the credit he deserved. Additionally, in 2018, he captured five gold medals at the Asian Youth Chess Championship. He was able to meet all the standards and prerequisites to clinch the title of International Master, however, at the 34th Cappelle-la-Grande Open.

 

He attained the title of second-youngest grandmaster at the age of twelve, narrowly missing the chance of being the first to be acquired by Sergey Karjakin.  He most recently defeated a number of formidable grandmasters in August 2022 in the 44th Chess Olympiad, earning a perfect starting score of 8/8. With a score of 9 out of 11,  he delivered a rating performance of 2867.  He was able to represent India with an individual gold medal and contribute to the Indian team's excellent bronze medal win, showcasing his talent and upholding the nation's prestige.
